Sustainability in global trade and industry

As part of the EU’s Green Deal and its commitment to reducing carbon leakage, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) has been introduced through Regulation (EU) 2023/956. CBAM applies to imports of carbon-intensive goods such as cement, iron and steel, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity, and hydrogen.During the transitional period (2023–2025), importers are required to submit quarterly CBAM reports, while from 2026, they must purchase and surrender CBAM certificates corresponding to the embedded emissions of imported goods. Transparent, accurate, and verified emissions data will be essential to ensure legal compliance and maintain trust across supply chains.

As an independent accredited certification body, we offer verification services for CBAM reporting obligations in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/956.

EUROCERT’s services include:

  • Verification of quarterly CBAM reports on embedded emissions of imported goods
  • Validation of emissions data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Compliance support for importers and customs representatives under CBAM

Our accredited verification services ensure your organization’s CBAM reporting meets the highest standards, strengthens credibility with regulators and stakeholders, and demonstrates your commitment to sustainability and regulatory compliance.

WHAT IS CBAM VERIFICATION
Under CBAM, regulated entities—primarily importers of carbon-intensive goods—must:
  • Collect and maintain reliable data on the embedded greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of imported goods in the covered sectors (cement, iron and steel, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity, hydrogen).
  • Submit quarterly CBAM reports during the transitional period (2023–2025), disclosing direct and, where applicable, indirect emissions.
  • From 2026 onwards, purchase and surrender CBAM certificates corresponding to the verified embedded emissions of imported goods.
  • Apply approved methodologies for calculating emissions, in line with the Implementing Regulation issued by the European Commission.
  • Ensure compliance with the reporting requirements and obligations established in Regulation (EU) 2023/956
